NFI is committed to adequately supporting students’ individual needs and being available to provide guidance on services ranging from study support to support in development of English language literacy, numeracy, digital literacy and students’ overall wellbeing. Students requiring assistance with such external support services can request support from NFI on how best to connect with the most relevant service available.
While studying, students are provided with:
- Qualified staff, who are available for personal and vocational guidance
- Feedback on study progress through the assessment process
- Equal opportunity to demonstrate their competence/skills and knowledge
- The appropriate level of learning support while progressing with a course - this support includes an online student Help Forum, plus access to NFI by phone on 1300765400 Mon-Fri 9am-5pm, plus a support@financeinstitute.com.au email option for any learning support questions
- Support and guidance to access external agencies or support links should further support in specific areas be required.
Language, Numeracy and Digital Literacy
NFI is committed to providing all potential and current students with support for needs regarding language, literacy, numeracy and digital literacy.
Students are asked to identify when they enrol, whether they have a disability, impairment or long-term condition and to confirm the standard of their English, Numeracy and Digital literacy through a survey. This assists NFI support staff, trainers and assessors in determining what level of support may be required. Students may be asked for further information to allow a determination of whether skills held are sufficient to successfully undertake the chosen training program. This may be established via the completed enrolment questionnaire or via phone interview or completion of a Language Literacy and Numeracy Quiz or a combination of these. A member of NFI support staff would notify the student if they were required to complete the quiz.
Where learning support is identified and required for those with only basic language, numeracy, digital literacy or other identified difficulties, the following support mechanisms will be put into place:
- A confidential discussion with the student about which specific level of support is needed eg. English language, literacy, numeracy or digital skills
- NFI will provide to the student the contact details of the support services deemed appropriate and will integrate the support service into the student’s training and assessment if appropriate
- Discussion with the student on how reasonable adjustment may be required to play a role in their training and assessment plan.
Welfare and Guidance Services
The staff at NFI are able to assist students to choose the right course, help with individual study needs and provide guidance about external agencies for external support if required. Our staff are approachable in providing support with course planning, career goals and direction, assessment anxiety or identifying an agency that may assist with personal issues that impact on learning, mental health, coping with grief, or overall wellbeing, if appropriate.
Special Needs Support Links
If a student requires additional support services to complete any of NFI’s training courses (such as assistive technology or additional tutorials) allocated trainers or assessors will provide the first point of assistance through booking a private tuition session through Teams. NFI’s Private Tuition option has pre-booked, one on one learning assistance, on a $140 per hour basis, if required. The student will be referred to an external agency if a trainer is unable to assist. All external support services are at the expense of the student, however external support services identified by NFI typically have no cost.
Students who identify themselves as having a disability, special needs or who require other support services should advise NFI prior to or upon enrolment so that NFI can ensure that, if required, NFI has prepared the venue, materials, facility or amenity to cater to any special needs. This advice can be given by a note within the enrolment process, telephone or email and confidentiality is assured. When additional support required by students is beyond the capabilities of the RTO, NFI will refer students to identified external support services. The external support services options can be found by clicking on the blue box link at the top of this page.
